Synthesis and antibacterial activity evaluation of Ag@HMSN nanomaterials derived from rice husk
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study presents the synthesis of silver-loaded hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Ag@HMSN) derived from rice husk ash for antibacterial applications. HMSN was synthesized using P123 as a structure-directing agent, followed by the incorporation of silver nanoparticles through the reduction of AgNO₃ using citric acid. XRD results revealed that the silica framework was predominantly amorphous, while silver nanoparticles were well dispersed within the mesoporous structure. Meanwhile, TEM images confirmed a multilayer hollow structure with pore sizes ranging from approximately 10–25 nm, Ag nanoparticles with 22 nm of particle size, and EDS analysis verified the presence of Si, O, and Ag with a silver content of about 1 wt%. Antibacterial tests also demonstrated that Ag@HMSN exhibited inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, with antibacterial efficiency increasing as the silver content increased and showing stronger activity toward E. coli. These findings together indicate that Ag@HMSN is a promising material for antibacterial and environmental treatment applications.
