Abstract

This paper examines the strategic shift in revolutionary struggle methods in Kien Phong Province (now as part of Dong Thap Province) during the 1959–1960 period. Employing historical and logical approaches, together with source criticism of archival documents, the study clarifies the transition from purely political struggle to the combination of political and armed struggle under the influence of Resolution 15. The findings reveal that the victory at Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung was not merely an isolated military event, but it was the inevitable outcome of local force-building efforts and the flexible strategic leadership of the provincial Party Committee. The paper contributes a scholarly perspective on the distinctive characteristics of the Dong Khoi movement in the strategic region of South Central Vietnam, while also providing additional empirical evidence for the history of the resistance war in the Mekong Delta.
