Editorial Policies and Publication Ethics
The Dong Thap University Journal of Science acknowledges, endorses, and commits to adhere to international standards for responsible research publication for academic journal editors and authors. These standards have been developed with the assistance of worldwide experts and coordinated by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
To ensure that processes are in place to deal with publication misconduct, The Dong Thap University Journal of Science issues editorial policies for its editors and authors to comply with. These editorial policies (in Vietnamese) are based on the abovementioned international standards for responsible research publication, and on principles of transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing.
(1) Peer-review policy: The Dong Thap University Journal of Science operates a double-blind peer-review system. Reviewers do not know the names or affiliations of the authors and the reviewer reports provided to the authors remain anonymous. All submissions to Dong Thap University Journal of Science are assessed by a member of the Editorial Board, and reviewed by at least one independent reviewer who is not a member of the Editorial Board. The author should receive feedback from reviewers and the Journal Editorial Council's decision on the article's results within a 90-day period from the date the Secretariat receives the manuscript. The submission must adhere to the journal's regulations and requirements. The Section Editor will make a decision based on the reviewers’ reports, which is subject to endorsement by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors should note that even in light of one positive report, concerns raised by another reviewer may fundamentally undermine the study and result in the manuscript being rejected.
(2) Article correction policy: Changes to published articles that affect the interpretation and conclusion of the article, but do not fully invalidate the article, will, at the Editor-in-Chief’s discretion, be corrected via publication of an Erratum that is indexed and linked to the original article;
(3) Recording, adding, deleting, and changing the order of authors' names in the article policy:
- The author group agrees on the sequence of the authors’ names in the article. This includes the corresponding author, who is responsible for liaising with the Journal throughout the manuscript submission, review, and publication process. The corresponding author is also responsible for providing feedback to readers and the Journal after the article has been published. If it is necessary to acknowledge the contributions of each author to the article, additional information about the contributions of the authors can be presented in the article.
- The addition, deletion, or change of the order of authors' names in the article must be carried out before the manuscript is accepted for publication by the Editorial Board. Only in special and well-justified circumstances will the Editorial Board consider requests for the addition, deletion, or change of the order of authors' names after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.
- After the article has been published on the Journal's online publishing management system or has been published in the print version of the Journal, no requests for addition, deletion, or changes to the order of authors' names will be accepted.
- To request additions, deletions, or changes to the order of authors' names, the corresponding author of the article must submit a request to the Editorial Board, clearly specifying the following: The reasons for the addition, deletion, or change of the order of authors' names. Confirmation documents (emails, signed letters) from all authors confirming their agreement to the addition, deletion, or change of the order of authors' names. In cases of addition or removal of author names, the corresponding author must provide additional confirmation documents (emails, signed letters) from the added or removed author(s) confirming their agreement to the addition or removal.
- At the suggestion of the Chief Secretary, the Editor-in-Chief decides whether to approve or reject the request for additions, deletions, or changes to the order of authors' names. The Editor-in-Chief's decision is final, and other requests from the author(s) related to this decision will not be considered.
(4) Policy on canceling articles in the publishing process:
- The cancellation of articles is applied by the Editor-in-Chief to articles in the publishing process found to violate one of the following errors: Serious errors altering the conclusions of the article. Submission identical to another previously published article. Authors engaging in ethical violations in research and scientific work, such as submitting the same article to multiple journals simultaneously, falsifying authorship rights statements, plagiarism, data fabrication, and similar cases.
- In the case of article cancellation applied to an article in the publishing process that has already been published on the Journal's Online Publishing Management System, the entire content of that article in HTML and/or PDF format will be removed from the Journal's Online Publishing Management System and replaced with an HTML and/or PDF page with the note “Article canceled: [Article Title].”
(5) Article retraction policy:
- The retraction of a published article is applied to address errors in the submission and publishing process caused by the author and/or co-author's ethical violations in research and scientific work, such as submitting the same article to multiple journals simultaneously, falsifying authorship rights statements, plagiarism, data fabrication, and similar cases.
- The retraction of a published article is carried out at the request of the author and/or co-author of the article; or at the Editor-in-Chief's discretion upon the recommendation of members of the scientific community. The article retraction policy is applied to a published article, and the following measures will be implemented:
+ For the print version of the Journal: A note with the heading "Retracted Article: [Article Title]" will be published in the next issue of the Journal and listed in the table of contents of that publication.
+ For the online version of the Journal: A screen with the note "Retracted Article: [Article Title]" along with a link to the original version of the article (in PDF format) will be displayed on the Journal's Online Publishing Management System. The content of the original article (PDF version) will not be altered, but a watermark will be added to each page with the note "Article has been retracted." The HTML format version of the original article (if available) will be removed from the Journal's Online Publishing Management System.
(6) Policy on the removal of published articles for legal reasons: The removal of published articles is applied by the Editor-in-Chief in the following special cases:
- The article clearly violates legal regulations.
- The article needs to be removed upon the request of a court or other legal enforcement agencies.
- In cases when the removal of a published article is applied, information about the article, including the title, author's name, and affiliated institution, will still be retained on the Journal's Online Publishing Management System. However, the entire content of the article will be replaced by a screen with the note "This article has been removed for legal reasons." The Editor-in-Chief decides on the detailed explanation for the reason behind the article's removal.
(7) Article replacement policy:
- The replacement of a published article is applied by the Editor-in-Chief when there is a risk that the article could lead to serious health risks if readers follow its content.
- The replacement of a published article is carried out at the request of the authors of the original article and with the consent of the Editor-in-Chief. The authors of the original article must submit a written request clearly stating their intention to retract the original article due to errors and to replace it with a corrected and supplemented version.
- The edited and supplemented article must undergo the review process stipulated by the Journal.
- In cases where the replacement of a published article is applied, the following measures will be implemented:
+ For the print version of the Journal: A note with the title "Replaced Article: [Title of the original article] and replaced by the following article: [Title of the replacement article]" along with the full content of the new replacement article will be published in the issue closest to the time when the article replacement policy is applied and will be listed in the table of contents of that publication.
+ For the online version of the Journal: A screen with the note "Retracted Article: [Title of the original article] and replaced by the following article: [Title of the replacement article]," along with a link to the edited and supplemented version of the article (in PDF format), will be displayed on the Journal's Online Publishing Management System. The first page of the replacement article will provide a clear history of the article, including information about the submission date, acceptance date of the original article, and the replacement article, along with an explanation of why the article was replaced.
+ The PDF version and the HTML format version (if available) of the original article will be removed from the Journal's Online Publishing Management System.
(8) Policy on issuing corrections to published articles: The Journal allows corrections for minor errors that do not affect the interpretations and conclusions of the published article through the release of a correction notice. Based on the recommendation of the Editorial Board, the Editor-in-Chief decides whether to permit or not permit the publication of a correction notice accompanying the original published article.
(9) Plagiarism Policy: Submitting a manuscript is considered an implicit agreement between the author and the journal that the manuscript is the original work of the author, not fabricated or falsified, including any copies of the author's own work. All relevant works must be properly cited. To ensure the integrity of articles and research, all manuscripts submitted to the Dong Thap University Journal of Science are checked via Turnitin and KiểmTraTàiLiệu for duplicate content and originality. In the reviewer evaluation form, we also request that if the reviewer suspects plagiarism, fraud, or has other ethical concerns, they should inform the editor of these suspicions and provide as much detail as possible.
