Analysing the efficiency of lotus production in Thap Muoi District, Dong Thap Province

Abstract

The research results are based on data collected from 52 lotus-growing households in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. The average lotus yield is 3.61 tons/ha. The average profit is 30.64 million VND/ha. Technical efficiency (TE = 0.81) and Allocative eficiency (AE = 0.76) are quite good. However, the cost eficiency (CE = 0.61) is average. Results of estimated Tobit regression models such as educational attainment; production experience; participation in training and social activities, family members have positive impacts on lotus households’ production efficiency, while bank loans limits their production efficiency.
