Abstract

Mathematics plays an important role in forming and developing students' mathematical competencies. Among them, applying mathematics to real-life situations is one of the core competencies under Vietnam's 2018 General Education Curriculum for Mathematics. In the Grade 7 curriculum, the topic “Proportional Quantities” is an area of knowledge with high applicability, closely connected to daily life and production, offering many opportunities to foster students' competency in applying mathematics to real-life situations. This article highlights the manifestations of the competency to apply mathematics to real-life situations in teaching the topic “Proportional Quantities” – Grade 7 Mathematics, and proposes several pedagogical measures aimed at fostering this competency 7^th graders. These measures are designed in accordance with a competency-based orientation, contributing to supporting teachers in effectively organizing teaching activities connected to real-life practice, thereby enhancing students' competency in applying mathematics to real-life situations.
