Abstract
From the schema-activating role of short stories [6], this paper seeks to corroborate that short stories are effective materials which engage English-majored students in reading and writing activities. Subjects encompass 79 first-year students from Faculty of English Linguistics at University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. Research findings unveil that writing in form of short stories reflects higher effectiveness than traditional writing approach with teachers’ correction of students’ writing.
