Reforming and military building during Innovation Movements in Asia (Japan, China, Thailand), early modern times
Main Article Content
Abstract
Three reforms in Asia (Japan, Thailand and China) in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries fundamentally changed the strength and position of these countries. One of their major reforms was in particular that of the military helping increase their national strength, defense and ability to confront Western countries. Although the reforms, the military development in each of the three countries were different in formats and results, they shared a significant change in vision as well as a clear definition of the military’s important role in maintaining and protecting the security and sovereignty of the nation. The reform and building of the military in the three countries is considered to be one of the factors contributing to the internal strength, leading to having preserved Japan’s and Thailand’s independence at that time.
