APPLYING THE 5E MODEL IN TEACHING EXPLORATION OF THE CONCEPT OF GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents a lesson design for teaching the concept of geometric sequences in the Grade 11 mathematics curriculum using the 5E instructional model. The objective of the study is to create conditions that enable students to actively explore the concept through direct learning experiences, thereby constructing knowledge in a deep and meaningful way. The research method employed is design-based research, consisting of two fundamental stages: reviewing relevant literature and designing a sequence of instructional activities. The article proposes two strategies to stimulate student interest and foster reasoning at the Engage phase: using either a mathematical game or a real-life situation. The remaining phases are structured to guide students in actively discovering, describing, generalizing, and applying the knowledge, with the aim of helping students clearly understand the concept, accurately use the formula for geometric sequences, and recognize related real-world contexts.
