Abstract

The article outlines a series of teaching situations aimed at developing students' mathematical communication competence through the teaching of the chapter on fractions in Grade 6 Mathematics. These include training students to listen, read, take notes, and express essential mathematical information; effective use of mathematical language combined with common language to exchange and present mathematical ideas, contents, and solutions during interactions with others; promoting active participation in group discussions and debates when learning about fractions. This article identifies the manifestations of students’ mathematical communication competence on learning the fractions and designs instructional situations for teaching concepts and rules toward developing students' mathematical communication competence.
