Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of using the electronic newspaper “Le Courrier du Vietnam” on the development of reading comprehension skills among French Language students at Can Tho University. Data were collected from 39 final-year students majoring in French Language. A quantitative methodology was employed, using surveys and data descriptive statistics, combined with the qualitative using in-depth interviews with 4 students. The results show that using this electronic newspaper has a positive impact on the development of students' French reading comprehension skills, with five main factors: (1) Expanding vocabulary and language knowledge; (2) Improving content understanding and inference abilities; (3) Developing analytical thinking and knowledge application; (4) Enhancing understanding of culture, society, and current affairs in French; and (5) Creating motivation and interest in learning. This study provides a basis for lecturers and educational institutions to consider integrating online press sources into the curriculum to improve the effectiveness of reading comprehension skill development for French Language students.
