Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of feeding frequency on growth performance and survival rate of Thai frog (Rana tigerina) at grow-out stage, aiming to determine the optimal feeding frequency for culturing frog. The experiment was randomly set up with 4 replications of 3 treatments which were different feeding frequencies: NT1: 2 times (7h, 17h), NT2: 3 times (7h, 12h, 17h) and NT3: 4 times/day (7h, 12h, 17h, 22h). Frogs (average weight of forg was 3.51 ± 0.21 g/frog) was cultured in 12 composite tanks (0.5 m3/tank) with the density of 60 frog/tank. After 8 weeks of experiment, the reults of feeding treatment of 4 times/day had the highest growth performance (WG = 175.89 g, DWG = 3.14 g/day) and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05) in comparison with feeding treatment of 2 and 3 times/day. The survival rate in feeding treatment of 4 times/day got the highest results (88.33%); however, there were not statistical differences compared to the other treatments (p>0.05). In addition, the feed conversion ratio (FCR = 1.05) and the feed cost for 1 kg of frog (21.06 thousand VND/kg) were lowest in feeding treatment of 4 times/day. Based on the obtained results, the most suitable feeding frequency for farming Thai frog in this study was 4 times/day.
