Investigating morphology, biology, host plants and preying ability of Coccinella transversalis on vegetable
Main Article Content
Abstract
Research results show that the life cycle of Coccinella transversalisvaries from 25 to 66 days, the average incubation period is 3.69 days, the larval stage 11.6 days (aged 4), whilethe pupal 3.27 days. The mean longevity of male and female beetles is 18.1 and 29 days respectively, and the pre-oviposition is between 3 and 5 days. Each female lays 212 eggs on average with a high hatching (80.12%). Frequency of C. transversalis found on potted plants and peppers is superior. C. transversalis are able to feed on aphids (Aphis craccivora and Aphis glycines) in all four stages of larvae and insects. They appear to have the potential for biological control of aphids.
