Thuyết động cơ bảo vệ (Protection Motivation Theory - PMT) đã được vận dụng trong nhiều nghiên cứu ở các lĩnh vực khác nhau, trong đó có du lịch. Nghiên cứu này nhằm khám phá mối quan hệ giữa đánh giá ứng phó (năng lực bản thân và hiệu quả đáp ứng) với hành vi tự bảo vệ và ý định đi du lịch của du khách nội địa trong điều kiện bình thường mới (hậu Covid-19) ở thành phố Cần Thơ. Nghiên cứu tiến hành khảo sát 315 khách du lịch nội địa có ý định đi du lịch đến Cần Thơ trong điều kiện bình thường mới và sử dụng mô hình phương trình cấu trúc dựa trên hiệp phương sai (CB-SEM) để phân tích và xử lý số liệu. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy có mối quan hệ cùng chiều giữa đánh giá ứng phó với hành vi tự bảo vệ và ý định đi du lịch của du khách nội địa. Qua đó nghiên cứu cho thấy rõ hơn hành vi của du khách nội địa trong bối cảnh bình thường mới hậu Covid-19, từ đó một số hàm ý quản trị được đưa ra nhằm thu hút khách du lịch nội địa đến Cần Thơ trong tương lai.
