Abstract

The 2018 Vietnamese general education program emphasizes the development of students' practical abilities and competencies on core knowledge acquired. Physics cognitive ability is critical of physics competency, encompassing the ability to recognize, understand, and apply scientific concepts in practical contexts. Towards this goal, the 5E teaching model, with its flexibility and student-centered approach, is suitable for fostering students' physics cognitive ability. This study proposes a process for applying the 5E model towards fostering students' physics cognitive ability, illustrated through the topic "Newton's Three Laws of Motion" (Physics 10). The model of Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate, is applied to encourage students to actively explore, experiment, and relate physics concepts, thereby developing physics cognitive ability. This model can be considered an effective method for comprehensively developing physical and cognitive abilities while creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students.
