Teaching the topic alcohol - grade 11 chemistry using the 5E model to develop students’ competency to exploring the natural world from a chemical perspective

Abstract
In the context of educational innovation oriented toward competency development, the application of active teaching models in Chemistry education plays a significant role. The 5E instructional model has been increasingly applied in teaching subjects within the field of natural sciences. Based on a theoretical analysis of the 5E model and the orientation of the 2018 General Education Curriculum for Chemistry, this study shows that the model effectively supports students in achieving lesson objectives and contributes to the development of both general competencies and Chemistry-specific competencies, including competency in exploring the natural world from a chemical perspective. This paper presents a study on the application of the 5E instructional model in teaching the topic of Alcohol (Grade 11 Chemistry) with the aim of developing students’ competency in exploring the natural world from a chemical perspective. The experimental results may indicate the feasibility of applying the 5E model in Chemistry teaching, thereby contributing to the development of students’ competency in exploring the natural world from a chemical perspective at the high school level.
