Ethanol production from cocoa pod hydrolysate by Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cocoa pod (with more than 40% cellucose) is one of agro-waste sources in agro-production and can be used for bioethanol production. The purpose of this study is to investigate the ability of ethanol production from cocoa pod hydrolysate and identify fermentation conditions by means of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The research results show that the Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation VVD3 obtained 5.14% (v/v) ethanol and the sugar consumption efficiency was 97.66%, in the identified conditions as follows: the initial density at 106 cells/ml, 8.62% (w/v) reducing sugar and pH 5.5 at 30-32oC during 7 days of fermentation. This research reveals the potential of bioethanol production by using agro-waste sources of cocoa pod.
