Abstract

This paper focuses on organizing practical and experiential activities in Grade 8 Mathematics, aligned with the 2018 General Education Curriculum and the 2018 Mathematics Curriculum in Vietnam. Based on theoretical foundations and teaching practice analysis, the paper proposes a seven-step process for designing experiential learning activities, integrating David Kolb’s experiential learning theory into mathematics instruction. The model is illustrated through the topic “Applying Similar Triangles to Indirectly Measure Height”. Thus, it enables students to apply mathematical knowledge to real-life contexts, and to develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and creativity. The model proves feasible and appropriate for general school settings, contributing to the innovation of mathematics teaching methods in a competency-based approach.
