Abstract

This paper designs several teaching situations in the topic of Equations in Grade 8 Mathematics with the aim of contributing to the development of eighth-grade students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning competence. Through theoretical research, the paper clarifies concepts related to students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning competence, analyzes its manifestations in the topic of Equations in Grade 8 Mathematics, and proposes a procedure for designing teaching situations oriented toward the development of mathematical thinking and reasoning competence in this topic. Based on this procedure, two teaching situations are designed to foster students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning competence in the topic of Equations in Grade 8 Mathematics.
