Current status of teaching staff development in primary schools in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract
Developing the teaching staff is a key task as a decisive meaning for the quality of primary education and the success of the current fundamental and comprehensive educational reform process. This study focuses on surveying and analyzing the current status of developing the teaching staff at primary schools in Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh city. Thus, it provides a practical basis for educational managers and schools in building and proposing measures to develop the staff suitable to the characteristics of the unit. The study used a questionnaire survey method combined with in-depth interviews with 10 managers (5 principals and 5 vice principals) and 170 teachers of 5 primary schools in Thu Duc city. The survey results show that the teaching staff basically ensured quantity, training level met and exceeded standards with a high sense of responsibility. However, there are still some limitations in terms of structure, capacity to apply information technology, innovate teaching methods and professional training is not really effective. The research results contribute to reflecting the overall picture of the current situation of primary school teacher development in new urban areas, which is an important basis for schools and educational management agencies to develop appropriate, practical and sustainable staff development measures.
