The current “snake-skin” disease on snakehead fish pond-farmed in Dong Thap province
Main Article Content
Abstract
A survey was done by interviewing 120 snakehead farming households about the current “snake skin” disease found in the districts Hong Ngu, Tam Nong and Hong Ngu town, and predictions on this disease were made basing on technical factors. Up to 50.8% households reported the disease on their farmings. It was often seen in the dry season. The infected fish had white spots over the head, scale loss and inner organs damaged. The households generally treated the disease by pond-disinfecting, adding antibiotics and nutrients in diet to improve the fish’s immunity. However, these were ineffective. Binary logistic regression showed that some factors to foretell this disease include stock size, years of farming experience and disinfection and diet reduction.
