The current situation of managing nutrition and health care activities for preschool children in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the current state of managing nutrition and health care activities for preschool children in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City. The survey involved 166 administrators, teachers, and staff members (including 22 administrators, 130 teachers, and 14 staff) as well as 68 parents from both public and private preschools. A five-point Likert scale was used to analyze perceptions and implementation levels. The research results show that there is a significant gap between awareness and action: although teachers and administrators highly appreciate the role of care and nurturing, the level of initiative, resource mobilization and belief in implementation effectiveness is limited. The implementation of health care content is only at an average level; school - family - community coordination is not as effective as expected. From parents’ perspectives, the majority expressed a neutral attitude, somehow showing incomplete trust in the quality of meals, food hygiene, and disease prevention efforts at schools. Additionally, several supporting conditions, including facilities, kitchen and sanitation areas, school health staff, and catering personnel, were insufficient while funding sources were constrained. The evaluation process remained largely formalistic, lacking scientific tools and criteria. The study highlights the urgent need to enhance investment, improve management mechanisms, strengthen staff capacity, and promote collaboration among schools, parents, and communities to improve the overall quality of nutrition, care, and health protection for preschool children.
