Current status of managing environmental protection education activities for primary school students in Hoa Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract
Environmental protection education for primary school students plays a vital role in fostering their environmental awareness, attitudes, habits, and responsible behaviors. This study investigates the current status of managing environmental protection education activities in primary schools in Hoa Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. A mixed-methods approach, combining questionnaire surveys and interviews, was employed. A five-point Likert-scale questionnaire was administered among 150 school administrators and teachers. The investigation focused on four core management functions: planning, organizing, implementing, directing, and monitoring and evaluation. The findings indicate that the management of environmental protection education activities was generally implemented at a relatively good level. Schools have developed implementation plans and integrated environmental protection content into school subjects, educational activities, extracurricular activities, and green, clean, and beautiful school campaigns. Nevertheless, several shortcomings remain. These include limited flexibility in planning, the infrequent organization of experiential learning activities, inadequate coordination among schools, families, and local communities, and monitoring and evaluation practices that are still largely formalistic. These findings provide a practical basis for proposing appropriate management measures to enhance the effectiveness of environmental protection education for primary school students.
