Fostering students' capacity of intellectual adaptation through teaching the topic of calculating the pyramid volume

Abstract
Fostering students’ capacity of intellectual adaptation is attracting researchers’ attention. Nguyen Ba Kim suggested the approach "learning by adapting" as follows: students learn by adapting themselves to the situations of contradiction, problem and imbalance [2, p.126]. This instructional approach requires teachers to know how to design these adverse situations, and scaffold students overcome these obstacles via accommodative and assimilative activities. In this article, we propose some measures to train students the capacity of intellectual adaptation through teaching the topic of calculating the pyramid volume.
